Dear uses magic link authentication — you enter your email address, receive a sign-in link, and click it to authenticate. There is no password to create or remember. Depending on how Dear is set up, you may be able to use the app without signing in; in that case your work is saved locally in the browser.Documentation Index

Sign in
Open the sign-in dialog
In Dear, click your account avatar or the user menu in the top-right corner of any page. Select Sign in from the menu.The sign-in dialog opens with a single email field.
Enter your email address
Type your email address into the field and click Send link.You will see the message: Check your email for a sign-in link.
Magic links expire after a short time. If you wait too long before clicking, request a new link by repeating the steps above.
Local-only mode
In some configurations of Dear, sign-in may not be available. If that is the case, the sign-in dialog will show a notice and the Send link button will be disabled. You can still use Dear — create documents, write, and capture ideas — but your data is stored only in the browser on your current device and will not sync across devices or sessions.Sign out
To end your session, go to Account Settings (/account/settings). In the Danger zone section, click Sign out. You are signed out immediately and redirected to the document list.
Your documents remain saved in the cloud and will be available the next time you sign in.
